I am all kinds of excited this evening! I finally figured out how to flatten the vector image of my badge! The master image of the logo that I use all over the internet instead of a personal picture (that is, my badge) was such a horrible complicated mess but now is a simple 2 layered illustration.
The great epiphany was figuring out how to remove the white fimbriations without removing the fimbriated look of the logo. (Fimbriations = The thin white portions of my black and white logo that separate the black elements from one another.) I then added the fimbriations back and consolidated the fimbriations into a single object that is below the black elements.
What started me on this little personal project was a problem I was having in photoshop with an augmented version of this logo (that is, my personal seal) that had an extra exterior ring and some calligraphic writing between the logo and the added extra ring. When I created my personal seal (that I use to "sign" my artistic works), I had white fimbriations (which were artifacts from the original logo) that were not shared by the rest of the seal design and that I couldn't remove from the vector version because it would make the black rings run into each other (destroying the separated look). When I separated out the fimbriations in Photoshop, it slightly altered the logo in a way that sort of ruined it. For this reason, I had kind left at the back of my mind the idea of returning to the vector version to fix this little difficulty.
Because I have now flattened the black elements of the image in such a way that they are inherently separated, I don't have to have white fimbriations in order to stop the rings from running into each other.
Although I am floating on cloud nine, I would be the first to say that I was an idiot for not seeing the solution from the get go. This is just an instance of terminal foolishness that hits all of us from time to time.

To see an example of what I am talking about, look at the this
[link] and note the one entitled "New" in particular as that is the vector image created entirely in InkScape. (The "Old" one was an InkScape remake of one created in Photoshop when my skills were lot poorer.) Just to note further, the version I altered in the above journal entry was not touched up in Adobe Illustrator unlike the images in the link. My skills at manipulating InkScape have imporved a whole lot since I made that image in the link (even though one could not tell the difference betweent he images).

There is no pretense here. I happen to be genuinely shallow and deeply self-involved.
